PVC Ceiling installation and advantages versus standard painted Gypsum ceilings

  • Fewer additives: Compared to other plastic types and ceiling materials, heavily plasticised PVC, which is used in most cases, contains very few additives and additional ingredients that might make it dangerous. This is a far cry from the days when asbestos was present in just about all ceiling boards.
  • Humidity resistant: In addition, PVC ceilings are also known for being anti-fungal, resistant to corrosion, not requiring painting, easy to clean, termite proof, and waterproof.

Advantages of a PVC ceiling

  • The main advantages of a plastic ceiling derive from the properties of plastics, for example:
  • Plastic is a non-hygroscopic material and does not absorb water, the advantage of this in a bathroom is that steam from the bath or shower will not be absorbed into the ceiling. So unlike a traditional plastered ceiling which can go mouldy from steam absorption, plastic ceilings will not go mouldy.
  • PVC ceilings are easy to clean using any household cleaners or a damp/dry cloth. Plastic ceilings just need a quick wipe from time to time to keep them looking like new.
  • PVC ceilings do not need painting. No more weekends spent painting and repainting bathroom ceilings with expensive paint. PVC ceilings come in the chosen colour ready to install.
  • It can be installed with downlights and is a great way of concealing wiring. Downlights, also known as spot lights, are popular upgrades in bathrooms and kitchens but require additional wiring runs and holes to be drilled in the ceiling. Plastic ceilings are perfect for covering over the damage to the existing ceiling caused from the downlight installation, so no need for the ceiling to re-plastered skimmed and painted.
  • PVC ceilings can be installed on a wooden or metal framework.
  • PVC ceilings offer excellent insulation to keep you extra warm in the winter season.
  • PVC ceilings are water proof and fire retardant.
  • PVC ceilings are available in matt or gloss, in various patterns and colour schemes and are suitable for humid and dry environments.
  • PVC ceilings can make a room much cooler in summer time when it is installed with Isotherm insolation layer on top, and in winter the room temperature will maintain
  • The biggest advantage is for kitchens and especially bathrooms where there is mould and can not grow on the PVC ceilings, and if mould occurs and can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth.
